Q&A

  • What is a boat club?  A boat club is a private, members-only club, much like that of a golf or tennis club.   For approximately a third of the cost of owning a boat, you will enjoy a fleet of top of the line boats.  The club boats are for the use of the club members, their family and invited guests.   As a member you have unlimited use of the full fleet of boats.   Also as a member of the club, we provide all the water toys – complimentary wakeboards, kneeboards, tubes, skis and life-jackets.  You just show up to share priceless memories with your family and friends, and we handle the rest.

  • What are the advantages to boat club membership compared to boat ownership? When you compare the 10% down payment, payments and interest amounts of a boat (don’t forget the trailer expense), storage fees (slip, slip hoist and trailer), on-going and seasonal maintenance, insurance, registration tags (boat and trailer), life-jackets, toys (wakeboards, skis and tubes), and outfitting the boat with an anchor, bumpers, tag lines, covers and etc., that boat owners have to the cost of club membership, the club is less expensive and comes with none of the hassles. With club membership, you have more financial freedom and time to actually enjoy not one, but  a variety of boats!

  • What are the differences in the membership levels?
    • Silver Level – Weekdays only (Tu-F with holidays excluded).  May have two reservations on the calendar at any time.  May make reservations up to 30 days in advance.
    • Gold Level – Six days a week (Tu-Sun and major holidays that fall on Monday). May have two reservations on the calendar at anytime with only one reservation per weekend (holidays included).  May make reservations up to 30 days in advance.
    • Platinum Level - Six days a week (Tu-Sun and major holidays that fall on Monday). May have three reservations on the calendar at anytime with only one reservation per weekend (holidays included).  May make reservations up to 45 days in advance.

  • Can family members or friends share a membership?  Membership is defined as an individual or spousal couple (children included).  Additional adult family members or others  (over the age of 21) may be added to a membership for only $50 per month.   All family members/others are considered ONE membership,  meaning only one member may check out a boat at any given time.  The maximum number of additional members is one.  Corporate memberships are available.

  • How do I reserve a boat?  Reservations are scheduled using our online reservation system and may be made up to 30 or 45 days in advance of an outing date.  Reservations are revolving.  As soon as you use or cancel one reservation, you get another right back.  In addition, you are not limited to the amount of times you may use a boat.   If a boat is available, you’ll be on it!

  • What if I want to make a last minute, same day reservation?  When making a same-day reservation, a minimum of two hours notice is required between a reservation and the actual time of  boat usage.   Such reservations are required to be called in and may not be made online.

  • What are the hours boats are available?

Summer Hours from April 1 to October 15th (dates and hours are subject to change with notice)

Early Outing – 8:00am to 1:00pm on Weekdays

7:00am to 1:00pm on Weekend and Holidays

Late Outing –  2:00pm to 8:00pm on Weekdays

2:00pm to 8:00pm on Weekends and Holidays

2:00pm to 8:30pm on Saturdays ONLY

Winter Hours from October 16 to March 31 (dates and hours are subject to change with notice)

Early Outing – 10am to 5pm

Note:  If no  reservation is on the calendar the date of your scheduled reservation, we are flexible with the time you may pick-up/return a boat.   However, no boat may be reserved after the latest evening return time or overnight.   We reserve the right to cancel reservations due to any just cause or inclement weather at any time.

  • How do I know I will be guaranteed a boat/how difficult is it to get a boat?  Boat Clubs are not a new concept.  It’s been proven, boat clubs have been able to accommodate 97%+ of all boat reservation requests.  The earlier you make your reservation (convenient online reservation system you control), the more likely you’ll get your boat of choice.

  • What are the contract terms?  The term of the contract is one-year (12 months from the date you join).  Pay the one-time initiation fee, and if you remain an active/good standing member, you never pay the initiation fee again.  If you leave the club and return later, you will be required to pay the initiation fee, as well as membership rates at that time.  Contracts automatically renew unless written notice is provided 60-days prior to the termination date.  Seasonal terms are not available.

  • What if I have little to no experience in operating a boat?  No problem!  We require and provide all boaters, experienced and inexperienced, boat safety training, including instruction on the water.    We will gladly stay with you until you are comfortable operating a boat(s).

  • What type of insurance is provided or do members provide their own coverage? As a club member you are covered under the club’s insurance policy.  Club members are responsible for all damage repairs and/or loss of equipment if such amount is less than the club’s deductible.  We also offer deductible option plans which may be purchased for a fee (these plans offer lower deductible amounts than that which is included with all memberships).

  • As a Member, do I have club privileges on all lakes?  The boat club membership is reciprocal, so you have access to the club fleet on any lake where Big D Boat Club has a location.

  • Are there any hidden expenses?  You are responsible for your dues and fuel.    When you pick-up your reserved boat it will have a full tank of fuel, and when you return it you top-off the fuel you used.   There is a fuel dock at the marina for your convenience and you are to pay them directly.

  • Are pets allowed on the boats? Pets are allowed on designated pet-only boats.

  • May we visit the operation and see the boats?  Absolutely! Tours are strongly encouraged and we’d love the opportunity to share more about the club with you.   Tours are by appointment only so please call or email us to schedule a tour of the operation and view the club boats.
